INST6.3 - Special Programs: Gifted and Talented Students

Section I - Instruction

GIFTED AND TALENTED

The Board mandates that expanded academic course offerings, programs, and supplemental services be provided to gifted students as an integral part of the regular school day. These services are for students identified in accordance with relevant statutes and guidelines. A comprehensive program scope and sequence for gifted education, including the requirements outlined in A.R.S. 15-779.02, shall be developed and submitted in the required format to the Department of Education for approval by July 1st if any changes were made during the previous year. If no changes occur, the program shall still be submitted for approval at least once every five (5) years.

For students transferring from another district or charter school, previously identified as gifted, the District will determine within a reasonable timeframe whether they will continue to receive gifted education services. If so, the appropriate gifted education program will be implemented without unreasonable delay.
