OTHER INSTRUCTIONAL INITIATIVES
Arizona Online Instruction (AOI)
Arizona Online Instruction (AOI) provides students with a flexible learning option tailored to meet the demands of the information age. The District Governing Board may permit students to enroll in AOI courses to fulfill both the academic requirements established by the Board and the State Board of Education (SBE). These courses must be provided by an SBE-approved online course provider or online school, as outlined by A.R.S. 15-808.
To align with District class and course standards, the course offerings and content must:
A. Meet the District's and the SBE's academic standards for the specific student population, B. Provide the minimum course of study and competency requirements needed for high school graduation based on the student’s cohort year, and C. Prepare students for success in post-secondary education, technical school, or the workforce.
For students enrolled in Arizona Online Instruction to earn credit toward promotion or graduation, they must:
A. Successfully complete the course requirements, B. Participate in the state testing requirements as prescribed by A.R.S. 15-741 et seq., and C. Remain eligible for AOI participation. If a student fails to meet the testing requirements and the online instruction provider does not administer the test to at least 95% of its students, participation in AOI will be prohibited.
Upon enrollment in an AOI course, parents or guardians will be informed of the state testing requirements.
The District will collaborate with the AOI provider to ensure accurate recording, maintenance, and reporting of relevant information to parents or guardians, District officials, and the appropriate state agencies.
If a student's academic performance declines while enrolled in AOI, a meeting involving the student’s parents or guardians, instructors, and school administrators will be held to determine whether continued participation in AOI is advisable.
Students may participate in AOI either as part-time or full-time students for purposes of membership and attendance, as prescribed by A.R.S. 15-808. For students enrolled part-time in the District and concurrently in AOI, their daily attendance and membership will be recorded and reported accordingly for funding purposes in compliance with A.R.S. 15-808 and the Uniform System of Financial Records (USFR).
If a student becomes ineligible to continue in an AOI course or program, the student will be enrolled in a District course or courses appropriate to their academic standing.
The District may apply to the Arizona State Board of Education to become an approved provider of Arizona Online Instruction.
