Transportation Management and Services


Objective:
The district is committed to providing safe and efficient transportation services for eligible students. The Governing Board may allocate funds for vehicles and transportation contracts, including the use of electric vehicles in compliance with state law.

  1. Vehicle Allowances:
    The district, charter schools, or contracted private transportation providers may use vehicles designed to carry between 11 and 15 passengers or a Type A or Type B school bus, as defined by the Department of Public Safety, to transport students to and from school. All vehicles must meet safety standards outlined in A.R.S. §§ 28-900 and 28-3228.

  2. Student Transportation Privilege:
    Transportation is considered a privilege for students and is not a legal requirement, except when transportation is necessary for students with disabilities as specified in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

  3. Superintendent Responsibility:
    The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing student transportation and ensuring safety hazards are addressed to protect the welfare of all students.

Walkers and Riders


Objective:
The district will provide school bus transportation for students who meet specific criteria to ensure safe travel to and from school.

  1. Students with Disabilities:
    Students with disabilities who require transportation, as outlined in their IEPs, will be provided with regular school bus transportation.

  2. Hazardous Routes:
    Students living within a one-mile radius of the school may receive bus transportation if the route is deemed hazardous or difficult, and no other arrangements can be made.

  3. General Student Transportation:

    • Common school students residing more than one mile from the school within the attendance area are eligible for transportation services.
    • Homeless students will receive transportation to their school of enrollment, which may be the school of origin, as arranged by the district’s homeless liaison.
