INST4.1 - Instructional Arrangements: Homebound Instruction

Section I - Instruction

HOMEBOUND INSTRUCTION

A student is considered "homebound" or "hospitalized" if they are capable of benefiting from academic instruction but are unable to attend school due to illness, accident, or other health-related conditions. Such a student must be examined and certified by a qualified medical doctor as being unable to attend regular classes for a minimum of three (3) school months. This also applies to students who, due to chronic or acute health problems, are certified as unable to attend school regularly and are expected to be absent intermittently for a total of three (3) school months throughout the year. Additionally, a student unable to attend classes due to pregnancy may also be considered for homebound instruction if a medical doctor certifies that attending school poses a risk to the pregnancy or the student's health.

Requests for homebound instruction should be submitted to the school office and must include medical documentation that outlines the student's medical condition and the necessity for homebound services. The District will provide homebound instruction for a minimum of four (4) hours per week, delivered by certified teachers qualified in the same subject areas as the student’s regular classroom teacher. A student receiving a minimum of four (4) hours of instruction weekly may be counted as having full-time attendance for those days. Regular classroom teachers will collaborate with homebound instructors to ensure continuity of instruction and a smooth transition for the student when they return to school.
